Experiment #ten/11:Part i Acrid Base Titration
Abstract: The purpose of this experiment is to detect the titration of hydrochloric acid, a
stiff acid with sodium hydroxide, a strong base and acerb acrid, a weak acid with sodium
hydroxide, a strong base. By observing the titration of a strong acid and stiff base and a strong
base and weak acid i can run across how the shapes in the titration curves differ. One tin likewise
place with pH indicator works all-time.
Introduction : During titrations in that location is an equivalence point which is where equal amounts of
moles of acid and base have been added. Whenorthward graphed one can see a rapid alter in the pH.
The pH indicator used in this lab was phenolphthalein which is clear in acidic solutions and pink
in basic solutions. Hydrochloric acid, a strong acrid was used with sodium hydroxide a strong
base. Strong acids and stiff bases completely ionize in solution resulting inorth water and a common salt.
For a weak acid there'southward only partial ionization. The titration curve of a potent base of operations/strong acrid
showed a stretched out curve as it started with a boring gradual change in pH as it reached the
equivalence point. The titration curve of a stiff base/weak acid showed a ho-hum and gradual
change in pH as it reached the equivalence point.
Experimental Procedures:
Materials:
●0.10 K HCl
●0.x M NaOH
●0.10M HC2 Hthree O 2
●0.10 G NHiv OH
●250-mL chalice
●50-mL buret
●2 utility clamps
●Computer
●Distilled h2o
●LoggerPro software
●Magnetic stirrer
●Magnetic stirring bar
●Phenolphthalein indicator
●Ring stand up
●Vernier reckoner interface
●5ernier pH Sensor probe
●Wash bottle
Procedure:
** Safety precautions: Wear a lab coat and safety glasses. Handle HCl and NaOH with intendance.
1. Identify 8mLs of0.i HCl into a 250mL beaker.
2. Add 100mLs of distilled H20.
3. Add iii drops of acid-base indicator phenolphthalein.
4. Identify the beaker on the heart of the magnetic stirrer and insert the magnetic stirring br.
5. Turn on the stirrer and gear up the speed to irksome.
6. Suspend the pH sensor electrode on the ring stand using the utility clamp.
vii. Place the HCl solution and suit its position then that the gagnetic stirring bar doesn't hit
the beaker.
8. Take a 50L buret, rinse information technology with 0.1 NaOH solution, then fill up it to the 0.0mL mark.
